This Is… My Future

This Is… My Future is a 16mm short film that connects my present to my future, where I am losing my vision and I struggle to see the beings and things that I care about.

I have found it difficult to accept my future blindness, especially since I still have full vision. In this film, I degrade 16mm film using antiseptics hydrogen peroxide and povidone-iodine and lubricating eye ointment. 16mm film segments morph into their souped film counterparts, taking the viewer through time to my future. As the film progresses, fragments of vision slowly fill the screen until they become indistinguishable and lost to the darkness. I hope that after the viewer sees this film, they can empathize with my feared vision loss and become more aware of how challenging it is to face a future with vision loss.
